Q. Do I need a reverse osmosis system?
A.
We suggest that anyone with a saltwater tank, utilize water that is sufficiently purified. A reverse osmosis system is an excellent method of purifying water. The addition of a deionization stage further purifies the water. In a fish only tank, reverse osmosis alone is often sufficient. In a reef tank or in situations where problem algae is occurring, it would be helpful to have the deionization system as well. At The Marine Scene our water is purified with a 6 stage reverse osmosis system. The stages are; prefilter, carbon filter, reverse osmosis membrane, deionization stage one, di stage two, and an ammonia removal cartridge. This water is stored in two vats; a salt water vat and a freshwater vat from which we perform our water changes, evaporation top off and water sales. Yes, we sell purified water. It has become an excellent solution to those individuals desiring excellent water but may not be able to justify the expense of an RO DI system. Selection of an RO system is often confusing as there are many aspects to choosing the correct unit. As always, we are ready to help you make your selection when the time comes.
